Brandon Roy Injured in Weekend Shooting in LA

Former NBA player Brandon Roy was reportedly injured from a shooting that occurred over the weekend.

Sources confirmed that the Nathan Hale coach was shot while at an outdoor gathering in the Los Angeles area as an innocent bystander in what may be a gang-related shooting.

Roy was shot in the leg near his grandmother's house in Compton on Saturday while trying to shield children from gunfire that erupted. Three others were also shot during the incident and are expected to survive as well.

Investigators are still trying to find a motive for the shooting.

Apparently, a group of men approached Roy and opened fire, adding that "the suspects ran to a getaway car" and took off.

Roy was treated in California but has already returned to Washington to recover. The former NBA All-Star is expected to make a full recovery.

A resident of western Washington, Roy graduated from Garfield High before playing at the collegiate level for the University of Washington. He played six years in the NBA lacing up with Portland for five seasons and finishing his career with the Timberwolves. Averaging 18.8 points per game, injuries sapped him of much of his prime as he left the NBA in 2011 after suffering from knee injuries.

Brandon Roy is currently the head coach at Nathan Hale High School in Seattle, taking over the basketball team this year. He led the team to an undefeated season.
