NBA Star Matt Barnes Hosts His 9th Annual Basketball Camp in Pacific Palisades

August 15, 2016

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA -- Athletes Versus Cancer founder and NBA basketball player Matt Barnes has returned to Southern California this year to host his 9th annual basketball camp for the youth within the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The training camp took place from Aug. 12-14 at Palisades Charter High School in Pacific Palisades.

The Matt Barnes Basketball Camp offers basketball development for youth and is available to both boys and girls ages 6-15. The registration fee was set to $250 per camper. Matt Barnes and his highly regarded coaching staff designed the basketball camp to help players at all levels improve their basketball skills and understand the game's techniques through shooting, dribbling, exhibition games and strategic skills conditioning and training. The training consisted of basketball drills, workouts and game competitions to instill confidence in players' abilities. "The camp is an experience to assist campers in developing as an individual and team player," as stated by Matt Barnes.

Not only did the camp provide basketball training to its campers, but mentorship and the opportunity to form lifetime friendships were other benefits that came out of the camp. During the three day weekend, former and present NBA players stopped in to maximize each campers experience to discuss basketball, life and their success on and off the court with the competitors. Of these NBA players were Chris Paul, Damian Lillard, Jelani McCoy, and Jamaal Wilkes.

Matt Barnes is a 14-year NBA veteran who currently plays small forward for the Sacramento Kings. After a stellar college basketball career with the UCLA Bruins, Matt became the 43rd player in UCLA history to top 1,000 points and led UCLA in assists (108) and was second in rebounds (192) and steals (35). Off the court, Barnes devotes most of his time to philanthropic endeavors and spending time with his family. This camp allowed him to give back to the community while fostering the spirit to succeed both on and off the court. For more information regarding the Matt Barnes Basketball Camp, visit www.mattbarnesbasketballcamp.com.
