With Kobe Bryant watching the game from the sideline and dressed in a suit and tie, the young core of the future Los Angeles based team is definitely getting better. D'Angelo Russell scored 27 points while Jordan Clarkson added 24 to put the Lakers over the edge for the win against the Orlando Magics.
Julius Randle matched his previous set career high with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Kobe Bryant sat out to rest his sore shoulder, but the young starters proved that the Lakers didn't need him in the game. This was the first time Russell, Randle and Clarkson scored 20 points each in the same game for the first time as fans got a glimpse of the Lakers' future.
Victor Oladipo had 26 points for the Magics, with Evan Fournier dropping 23. However, the Magics came up short in the 107-98 lost to the Lakers, putting them at three straight losses. In the third quarter, Russell, Clarkson, and Randle combined for 31 of the Lakers' 39 points. Russell had 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting in the third, making it his sixth 20-point game in nince outings since he rejoined the starting lineup.
Fans were really disappointed in Kobe's absence and were anticipating his return during this game. As for Bryant, he has skipped four of the last five home games in his farewell season and is likely to play against LeBron James and the Cavaliers on Thursday.
